Personnel from the Anti-Naxal Cell of Pune police quizzed Ramjanam alias Rajratan Devilal Singh (65), an absconding accused in the 1992 massacre at Gaya district in Bihar, after he was arrested by Khadak police in a burglary case recently.
Singh has been taken into custody by Bihar police, who sought his transit remand from the Shivajinagar District and Sessions Court of Pune yesterday evening. The accused will now be taken to Gaya District Court for further legal proceedings.
Singh is allegedly involved in the Naxal attack in which 35 persons belonging to upper caste Bhumihar community were killed in Baragaon village in 1992. He had, ostensibly, fled to Pune afterwards, and was working as a security guard here since. Singh’s nine other accomplices were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court. Singh revealed his involvement in the attack when he was questioned by Khadak police.

Speaking to MiD DAY, public prosecutor Rajani Tehsildar said, “Singh was arrested in a burglary case by Khadak police and was in the magisterial custody since the last few days. He was transferred in the Bihar case on Monday morning and was brought before a JMFC court around 6pm. The court granted transit remand of Singh to the Bihar police team till November 29. Bihar police will now be required to produce Singh in the Gaya court on or before November 29.”
“After Singh’s involvement was revealed in the Bihar Naxal attack, we questioned him, following procedures. It’s evident that he is an accused in the Baragaon case, but he was dormant in Pune,” said inspector (Anti-Naxal Cell) Avinash More.
