A first information report (FIR) was registered against some unidentified army men on charges of poaching a black buck in a forested area in Rajasthan, police said Tuesday.
The alleged poaching happened Monday night in the army's Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner district, some 320 km from state capital Jaipur.
"The district forest officer (DFO) has registered an FIR against unidentified army personnel for poaching a black buck which is a protected animal," a police officer told IANS.
In the FIR, the forest department claimed that the officials had recovered meat which was being cooked and some other items suggesting that the animal was killed by army men.
The FIR was registered under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act.
The army last month ordered an inquiry into allegations that some of its personnel poached three chinkaras (deer) in Barmer district along the Pakistan border.
