It's a victory of sorts for students of the postgraduate diploma course in business management at the Dina Institute of Hotel and Business Management. The state government's higher technical education department has declared a recent revised government resolution (GR) terming the course full time as null and void. This was after the National Students Union of India (NSUI) presented proof about the course being part time.
On February 12, 43 students pursuing the course had individually filed a case against eight management members of the institute at the Pune lower court for taking fees for a full-time course whereas the Pune University shows it as part time.
The court asked Chatushrungi police station verify the authenticity of the university. On March 19, the police submitted a report stating that it is a part-time course. On the same day, the eight members filed for anticipatory bail in the sessions court. The management then approached higher and technical education department, to change the status of the course to full-time, claiming that the earlier GR had a printing error.
The revised resolution was passed on April 1. However, on July 1, the department revoked its earlier decision after some students approached them.
