Fire in the Towers leads to occupancy inu00a0 nearby buildings that had been vacant since economic slowdown set in

Carlton Towers' tragedy has helped the owners of the nearby buildings in getting tenants. These buildings were vacated during the recession period when the IT professionals, who stayed there, lost their jobs.

80 per cent shifted

For the past few days, the police have been allowing the employees, who had their offices in Carlton Towers, to shift their belongings to nearby places.

According to the police around 80 per cent of the offices have been shifted from Carlton Towers and the rest are in the process.

Geetha who is working in a private company, which is shifting its office, said, "We are shifting our office to a nearby two-bedroom house. I think it's more than sufficient for six of us for the time being. We don't know how long it will take for the Carlton Towers to get back to normalcy. The rent is also quite less as we have to pay just Rs 25,000, as compared to Rs 45,000 that we used to pay in Carlton Towers for a small office."

Space shortage

Another employee from a different company, Vijay, said, "We are also looking out for an office space nearby on Old Airport Road. We are about 25 people and already we have seen a few places. We are negotiating and hopefully by next week we will be working from a new place."

Ravi Kumar of Sai Real Estate Agency said, "Five clients, who had offices in Carlton Towers, have approached me for office space. A 1,100 square feet office costs around Rs 15 to Rs 20,000 a month."
