If you are scouting for well-made, value-for-money food that comes in hearty portions, you should stop by at French Quarter Bistro in Indiranagar

Omer Basith and Shankar Ravi, who have been in the hospitality business for a while now, have opened French Quarter Bistro in Indiranagar.

If you are scouting for well-made, value-for-money food that comes in hearty portions, this is your port of call.

The menu, handed out at tables, is a simple single-pager but it holds great promise. I began with the Seafood Gumbo, a Cajun soup with okra and seafood. It came quite close to what I had feasted on at a restaurant in Louisiana two years back, and since the soup originates from there, I would give it four on five.

I chose Salades Printemps, which had roast chicken in honey mustard dressing with crunchy lettuce leaves.u00a0

While I opted for Fish Orly (batter-fried fish) as my main course, my dining companionu00a0 ordered Country pot pie, which was chicken pie topped with browned potatoes and cheese. The restaurant also serves interesting dishes like FQ Chicken with a 3-peppercorn sauce; Navrin a la Printainiere, a mutton stew; Coq au Vin, which is fricasseed chicken cooked in a wine sauce with onion and carrots, Algerian fish, which is Sea Bass with tomato concasse flavoured with peppers; and Vegetarian Ratatouille, a southern French dish of tomatoes, aubergine, peppers, courgettes and onions. If you are on a diet, try the Moroccan Vegetable Stew with Mint Couscous, or the French Colonial Stir-Fry served with steamed rice.

The Creme Brulee has a hint of coffee while the Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake and the Blueberry Cheesecakeu00a0 are as rich and sinful as they come.u00a0

Where: The French Quarter Bistro, No. 298, 100 Ft Road, Indiranagar.
Wallet factor: Rs 800 for a meal for two.
