Director Feroz Abbas Khan's Salesman Ramlal starring funnyman (remembered best as Calendar from Mr India) and Bollywood director Satish Kaushik and actress Seema Biswas, returns after a hiatus of six years. The man behind award-winning plays Saalgirah, Tumhari Amrita and Mahatma vs Gandhi, says this Hindi adaptation of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman is special thanks to the fact that although a classic, it continues to hold relevance.
How does he deal with a world where every dialogue is based on money and commerce, and continue to keep his moral values intact? is the question the play raises. Adapted by Imtiaz Hussain, the play centers around Ramlal, a middle-class salesman who is hounded by payments he has agreed to make in installments. With the onset of computerisation, he fears losing his job. Amusing in parts, poignant in patches, but always sensitive, the script introduces you to a man's dilemma when he realises that his skills, and he have become obsolete.
