Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters of Belgium overcame a slow start to beat Kristina Barrois of Germany 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 in three sets at the Paris Open last night.
The World No 2 is playing for the first time since her Melbourne triumph. She needs to reach the semi-final of the Paris Open this week to overtake the absent Caroline Wozniacki for top spot in the World rankings.
