If you missed the performance by award-winning rock band MotherJane at IRock, here's your chance to catch them live tonight
Last Sunday, a crowd of 3,000-odd fans defied pouring rain to stay back and watch award-winning band MotherJane take stage. "That was a stunner!" says Suraj Mani. The lyricist and vocalist of the band couldn't
believe so many people got on to trains, paid for tickets and stood in torrential rain to watch them perform. "It just takes ten people to make a guy pick up his guitar again. But that vision of the crowd at IRock, will make us perform for the rest of our lives," declares Suraj.
The Cochin-based band claims to have "rural roots" since they come from a small town. We argue that Cochin is not all that small after all, and Suraj says, "It's largely a Malayalees-only city, not as cosmopolitan as a metropolis. We come from a place where there's a really small community and we've only seen each other day-in-and-day-out. But we play what we like. That's probably what the crowd seems to like about us too."
The band members don't believe in planning for a gig. They change their approach depending on what the crowd before them wants. So, this evening's performance will be impromptu. "We want people to fall in love with the magic of the moment, because there's always a unique set of people at a unique time and space, and it'll never be the same again for any one of us," says Suraj, sounding almost as lyrical as the songs he writes.
