After Kalmadi's arrest in Delhi in connection with the CWG scam and his subsequent suspension from the party on Monday, there had been a show of support at the Congress Bhavan by his loyalists.

Later that day, about 200 people believed to be from an anti-Kalmadi faction in the paty had laid waste to some parts of the Congress Bhavan, wreaking destruction on Kalmadi's cabin and tearing his posters.
In response to the police asking him to provide details of the suspects, Joshi denied any connection with the incident.

Joshi had been alleged by pro-Kalmadi Congress leaders and activists to be behind the ransacking incident.
Police Inspector Maya Bankar from Shivajinagar police station said, "We have five names of activists who belong to the Congress party and are loyalists of MLC Mohan Joshi. So, we had called Joshi on his phone and asked him to help the police nab these activists responsible for the rampage. We don't quite expect any cooperation from the leader and our own independent investigations are on."

Joshi denied any conversation of the kind mentioned by Bankar had occurred. "Inspector Bankar had called me in the morning, but since a meeting was going on I could not speak to her. I returned her call in the afternoon, when she told me that my name is there in the complaint and she wanted to have some discussion about the suspects," he said. "I told her that I am not connected in whatsoever manner with the violent incident, as I am a staunch Congress party worker."
