A day after MiD DAY reported how 18-year-old Mohammad Salim was allegedly tortured by Delhi police personnel, senior cops have started investigating the case. The officers have questioned the victim and his family and have taken the statements on record.
"We are investigating the case, but as it is in a primary stage, we cannot get to any conclusion or comment on the issue. If anyone is found guilty then we will definitely take action against him," said a senior police officer.
Saleem's family is hoping for justice.
"The intervention of senior officials is a relief for us. All we want is justice," said Hanif Mohammad, father of the victim.
Saleem was allegedly beaten up by the cops over a stolen mobile phone on November 10. He suffered serious head injuries and was partially paralysed for a month. Saleem is being treated at VIMHANS hospital.
MiD DAY was the first to report the incident. The victim is suffering from Sub-Parenchymal Haemorrhage. The victim is unable to attend college as he has developed speech impediment and is not able to walk properly. Doctors have advised him regular neuro-rehabilitation.

Saleem is a resident of Sunlight Colony area of southeast Delhi. He bought a second hand cell phone from a dealer. Turns out, it was stolen. A mobile theft is usually a non-issue for Delhi police. Unless of course the victim happens to be a 'connected' guy. Saleem's relatives say this particular handset belonged to a person, whose father shares a good rapport with the local Station House Officer (SHO) VKPS Yadav. |
