On Saturday, the Vikhroli police succeeded in arresting a conman from Galaxy theatre in Bandra who had been on the run for two years. The 32-year-old accused, identified as Virendra Dayaram Boudh, was nabbed after the cops traced the location of his girlfriend through her cell phone, while they were watching the newly released movie ‘The Attack of 26/11’.

The lottery trick
“Boudh was known to cheat people on the pretext of getting them a house through Mhada lottery. He conned people to pay him an amount between Rs 50,000 and Rs 5 lakh as token money. The accused even provided them with a fake allotment letter,” said an officer from Vikhroli police station. Earlier, the victims had decided to catch Boudh on their own, but later they gave up, and registered a complaint with the Vikhroli police station.

“The accused kept changing his residence from Panvel to Mira Road with his family. He used to change his SIM card so it was very difficult to trace his location. He later started contacting people through his friend’s cell phone,” added the officer. Following a tip-off, the Vikhroli police looked at his facebook page and found out about his lady friend. From there, they traced her number.

“We arrested him at 3 pm on Saturday from Galaxy theatre. Investigation on whether he has swindled more people is in process,” said the officer. Boudh was married twice and kept changing his residence frequently. His parents stay at Century Mills. According to the officer, the accused left his parents’ house three years ago and visited them occasionally. He will be presented in the sessions court today.
