Choose from custom-made decoupage trays, prayer boxes and wall art on design blog artnlight
Creator of design blog artnlight Vineeta Nair, has always chosen to veer off the beaten path. Be it studying applied art instead of medicine or quitting her job as an art director with an advertising agency to become a full-time blogger the self-confessed net junkie likes to do things her way.
"I stumbled into the world of design blogging while sourcing designs at the ad agency where I worked. Design blogging involves writing about interesting designs. I was instantly hooked on to the concept, and started my own blog in 2007," says Vineeta.

u00a0Vineeta's foray into decoupage, however, happened only in 2009. "I had a tray lying at home, which I decided to jazz up with pictures of lotuses and prayer flags using the decoupage technique," she says. But it was her friends who egged her on to take things to the next level.

"I was initially skeptical about having an exhibition, but when I saw my products selling like hot cakes, I decided to go online with them," she adds.
Decoupage, also known as the art of Japanning, is the method of decorating objects by gluing paper cutouts from magazines or books onto various surfaces. The product is then sealed with layers of varnishes to make it resemble a painting.
Vineeta says her designs are largely defined by the personality of the client. "I do mixed media artwork with typography on various surfaces, ranging from wood to metal, but my focus is always on colourful designs," she explains.
Her interest in ethnic elements is apparent in the Green Jaipur box she has made using photographs of palaces from the Pink City. There's also a Rajasthani sun tray that depicts the ceiling pattern at the Junagad fort with the Sun God in the centre.
A creation that holds especially fond memories for the 35-year-old is the pen box she designed for a former boss. "He was a maverick. During meetings that threatened to go on forever, he would just start sketching. So, I made him a green and pink box with lots of slots for pens, and included sketches of him. He was thrilled," she reminisces.
u00a0Her wall art collection includes murals made for a friend using coasters from the cafe they spent hours at. And for those in search of something traditional, Vineeta's prayer boxes painted with gold flowers can be used to store incense sticks and prayer books.
"I have a bookcase that has poetry by GM Hopkins, Eliot and Vikram Seth scribbled on it. It would be fun to move on to other products like mugs, bottles and furniture," she signs off.
