Wife, teenage daughter file charges of domestic violence

Till a few days ago Dev Ashish Bhattacharya was the model Indian. The RTI activist, who had used the tool to ask questions regarding various policies of government agencies, had also been chosen "best citizen" by a media group. But, now it's time for him to find some answers. The wife and teenage daughter of Bhattacharya have made allegations of domestic violence against him.

In their complaint before a Metropolitan Magistrate, the two have alleged that the RTI champion would physically assault them using belts and other household articles and verbally abused them on a regular basis.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
"I suspect that he has lost his mental balance as he enjoys abusing and hitting us," Meenakshi said in her testimony.

In her complaint to the department where she is working, Meenakshi has mentioned that her husband "misuses the RTI Act to file complaints against people, organisations and officials of various government departments."
When contacted over the phone, Bhattacharya refused to comment on the complaint saying the matter is sub judice. Meenakshi alleged that her husband behaved like a "demon" with her and their daughter Swati.

Abuse Of Rights

The Delhi High Court Wednesday imposed a cost of Rs.75,000 on an NGO which had sought an inquiry into the role of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) engineers in the alleged mismanagement of Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects.
The court dismissed the petition after the MCD submitted that the petitioner NGO, Pardarshita Public Welfare Foundation, had questioned the parentage of the engineers through a Right to Information (RTI) application. Dismissing the petition, Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan said the present petition amounted to abuse of law.
