The new incumbent gave up non-veg food after assuming chargeu00a0

It could not be established whether it was a decision driven by spirituality but the new Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta gave up non-vegetarian food after assuming charge.

Gupta, who was DG (Prison) before taking up the assignment, has turned a complete veggie, sources in Delhi Police told MiD DAY.

Sources privy to the Police Commissioner's interaction with the Special Cell officers also gave many insights into the mind of Delhi's top cop.

"I am passionate about the Special Cell," is what Gupta had said in his first press conference as the top cop. A fortnight later, when he invited officers of and above the rank of inspectors from the Cell to his office on Monday, he called upon them to stay away from corrupt practices.

And Gupta said he leads them by example. "If I can save Rs 20,000 from my salary every month, you can also manage your affairs without falling into the trap of corruption," Gupta reportedly told the Special Cell officers.
"I will give you whatever you want, but I want positive results," Gupta reportedly told his men in the hour-long meeting.

The Police Commissioner also referred to the encounters for which the Special Cell has earned a reputation, especially after the Batla House gunbattle. "Encounters would be acceptable only if they are genuine. I will give you all required support if you work properly," Gupta said.

On out-of-turn promotions, which have been a talking point during his predecessor YS Dadwal's tenure, Gupta said, "I am not responsible for whatever happened before I took over. I will consider the promotion requests and will give it too if you show me the results."

Gupta took over as Delhi police commissioner replacing Y S Dadwal on November 10. Gupta, 58, a 1975-batch officer, was serving as Tihar Jail director general and is credited with introducing various measures to improve life of the inmates in the jail.

Apart from this the new police commissioner also directed special commissioner of police, special cell, PN Aggarwal to brief him personally about every input and output of special cell at 10.30 pm every day.

Invoking god

u00a0Unlike others of his stature, BK Gupta, who is known to be spiritual by nature, has put a famous song "Itni Shakti Hame Dena Datta" as his caller tune.
After taking charge as the new Delhi top cop and getting his official phone number --- 9818099001 --- he selected this song as his caller tune.
