The body was found in a Safdarjung hotel under mysterious circumstances

Police said the incident was reported around 3.30 am. The deceased has been identified as Dr Subhash Modi, a resident of Karnataka. He was discovered with a head injury by one of the hotel's staffers.

According to the police, Dr Modi was employed as a professor at Ghaziabad's ITS Management and IT Institute. "He had come to the city to attend a seminar at the Safdarjung Hospital a few days ago," said a senior police officer.

The officer said Dr Modi was last seen strolling in the hotel premises after having his dinner around midnight.

"Prima-facie it seems that after losing his balance on the stairs of an emergency exit, he received head injuries and lost consciousness due to the impact. Later, due to excessive bleeding, he died," said the officer.

An FIR regarding the incident has been registered and the doctor's body was sent to Safdarjung Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Further investigations are on.
