The best biryanis are often found in hole-in-the-wall kind of establishments. If you want to relish delicious biryani cooked up Andhra style, then finding yourself in and around the Halasoor Police Station is a must on a weekday during lunchtime.
Take the road straight from the police station towards Corporation Circle until you reach two adjoining mosques in the area.
Just ask anyone for the mosque biryani and you will be guided to the complex adjoining the religious area where a little shop sells biryani catering mostly to office goers.
Don't try going on Fridays there though, because you will find it difficult to get hold of the chicken or mutton biryani, chicken kebabs and mutton chops served here because of the crowd.
We sampled the chicken biryani which was dry with hints of curry leaves, and an aftertaste of tomatoes paired together with tender chicken cooked till charred in the biryani.
The biryani here is spicy and best had with lots of kuchumber salad or raita. You can buy either a plateful of this steaming, fragrant meat laden rice or order in larger quantities for parties where you will get biryani in large patilas which you can lug back home and return the next day.
