Doctor abused in hospital?

A female doctor says her male colleague insulted her in the operation theatre of a NOIDA hospital

Dr Kavita Saxena had joined the NOIDA district hospital with the idea of serving underprivileged patients. She had dreams of curing those who cannot afford quality treatment. Apparently, things didn't quite pan out that way. On March 4, Saxena alleged that a male associate had abused and assaulted her.

"I came to the district hospital leaving my private job so that I could experience the nature of work at a government hospital. I wanted to cater to society by working here but my experience was horrifying,"
u00a0Kavita joined the hospital on contract basis for two months, starting from February. But her experience was so bitter that she is counting her days here. "Last Thursday I was in the operation theatre with a nurse and Dr RN Agrawal, when Dr Agrawal started abusing us without cause.

I politely replied that he couldn't talk to me like this. Suddenly he became more aggressive and started abusing me at the top of his voice and also threatened me that he would make sure that I treat no patient here. He also touched my face and started using expletives," said Kavita, who filed a written complaint with the CMO of the hospital.

CMO Rajrani Kansal forwarded the complaint to the local police station. The case was investigated and the police took Kavita's statement. "I have no grudges against any person but I wanted to bring the misconduct to light. So far what I have heard is that Dr Agrawal has apologised to the police, but he has never met me after that. I didn't even follow the case; it is now for the management to take action," said Kavita who continues to look after patients.

CMO Rajrani Kansal said: "We have received a complaint from our new surgeon Kavita Saxena who was specially asked to join the hospital for two months as we were running short of staff. We have forwarded the complaint to the local police and we are waiting for them to respond."

Meanwhile, Dr RN Agarwal has rejected the allegations. He said, "I am being framed in the case. I have nothing to do with it. I have not abused or harassed anyone."
