Dr Shreepad Khedekar learnt that his juniors Dorland and Selroy Antonio Martins were siphoning money from his clinic's franchise in Goa the moment a third doc was shifted out of that clinic 2 years ago
Officials of the Shivaji Park police station arrested two junior doctors for cheating renowned homeopath Dr Shreepad Khedekar. The doctors were arrested from Madgaon in the wee hours of yesterday. They were produced in the Bhoiwada court in the morning and were remanded in police custody till January 23. A resident of Agar Bazaar in Dadar (West), Khedekar had lodged a complaint against the doctors in April 2011.

Police Sub Inspector Anup Dange of the Shivaji Park police station said, “Khedekar had opened a clinic under his franchise Imperial Clinics in Madgaon in 2010. He put Dr Dorland Antonio Martins and Dr Selroy Antonio Martins in charge of the clinic and the brothers stayed on and learnt from Khedekar for two years.” He added that Khedekar realised something was amiss when a third doctor employed at the clinic was shifted to a newly opened clinic in Thane.
“Initially, I had appointment three doctors, including the Martins brothers. After I shifted the third doctor to the newly opened Thane clinic, the monthly income dipped from an average of Rs 3 lakh to just Rs 30,000 per month,” he said.
After visiting the clinic Khedekar realised that the it was easily earning around Rs 1 lakh per day on average. Realising that he was being cheated, Khedekar sacked the Martins brothers and appointed a new doctor. But when the new doctor was sent to Madgaon to take charge of the clinic, the Martins allegedly fooled him into believing that the clinic he visited was the wrong one.
“Finally, I approached officials of the Shivaji Park police station and then Bhoiwada court. The court ordered the police to inquire into the matter. And after a detailed investigation, the two brothers were finally picked up by the police,” Khedekar said. Khedekar said what surprised him most was the fact that the brothers managed to secure anticipatory bail from a Goa court. “There was a lot of pressure from Goan politicians, asking not to arrest them,” Khedekar said.u00a0“The two have been booked for cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust under relevant sections of the IPC.u00a0
We have also recovered some antique furniture from their store and will be recovering more cash from them, which they amassed by misusing the clinic’s name,” Dange said. Khedekar added that so far, he has spent Rs 50 lakh on the interiors of the clinic and advertisements. u00a0
