Driver lost control of the vehicle on a slope at Maniklal Estate; rammed into two mini trucks, out of which one overturned
An overloaded dumper rammed into two mini trucks (Tata Ace) before crashing into a pillar of the Metro station around 12.30 pm in Ghatkopar yesterday. The driver of the dumper, Sanjay Nishad, lost control of the vehicle on a slope at Maniklal Estate while he was on his way to Shilphata dumping ground in Thane.

Rizwan Qureshi, one of the truck owners, sustained injuries as his vehicle overturned due to the impact of the accident. Soon, the locals gathered at the site thereby causing a traffic snarl. The residents demanded that the slope of the road be reduced, owing to the number of accidents that have taken place at the same spot.
“The locals wanted to speak Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) officials. I’ve assured them that I’ll soon organise a meeting with the MMRDA, traffic police and Metro officials so that necessary steps can be taken to avoid such accidents,” said Raj Kumar Kothmire, PI (Crime), Chirag Nagar police station.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the driver of the dumper under sections 279 (rash driving), 337(causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC and sections 134 and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. “He’ll be produced in Vikhroli court on Monday,” Kothmire said.
Danger zone
Shyam Shelar, a local said, “Two accidents have taken place here in the last couple of months. It’s the MMRDA who’s responsible, as they haven’t done the sloping of the road properly.”
Prasant Badhe, another resident, said, “As it was a Sunday, there weren’t many people on the road. There are two schools in the vicinity. Had the accident taken place on some other day, there could have been causalities too.”
The spokesperson from Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) said, “We had to examine the pillar as it supports the entire structure. It is perfectly alright, and there is no danger to the Metro station.” u00a0
