Tricks front office employee; makes off with Rs 48,000

The duo, walked into the front office of the hospital situated on Cunningham Road, seeking change for
Rs 500.

Thinking that they are visitors, Sooveen Verghese, the executive, gave them the change and resumed work. But a few minutes later the duo appeared again with a Rs 1,000 note.

Although, the hospital has adequate security guards in and around the building, it has no CCTV facility.

Verghese, who was counting cash, smelled something fishy as one of the men's hands were shivering as he handed the currency note over.

He turned his back to the counting machine to see if the note was genuine.

Meanwhile, he got a call from his HOD. After he was finished, he saw that the men left without taking the change.

Before he could call out to them, he got another visitor for some general enquiry. After attending to him, Verghese noticed that the cupboard was open and a bundle of cash was missing.

Verghese realised what had happened and rushed towards the gate. He asked the security guards to catch the two but they had already disappeared.

Ironically, the hospital has adequate security guards in and around the building but has no CCTV facility.

Later Verghese filed a complaint with the High Grounds police station. "We are helping the police track them down," he said.
