Srinagar: Seven civilians and two paramilitary troopers were injured yesterday when suspected militants hurled a grenade at security forces in a south Kashmir village.

The grenade exploded on the roadside in Bon Bazar area of Shopian district when a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) party was patrolling the area, a police officer said.

The nine injured included four women. They have been taken to a hospital, the officer added.

Meanwhile, the operation to flush out militants holed up inside the JKEDI complex entered its second day yesterday. An army official said the area around the complex has been cordoned off and exchange of fire was going on. “Security forces have launched a fresh offensive to flush out the militants,” the officer said.
