Constable Santosh Jadhav earns a promotion and a Rs 51,000 cash award for defusing six Improvised Explosive Devices in a record time of 20 minutes



Police Constable Santosh Jadhav from Pune goes where angels fear to tread. Jadhavu00a0 is the India's fastest bomb disposer a fact that he proved by defeating 78 contenders to win the gold medal at an anti-sabotage checking competition at an all-India police meet in Bangalore early this year.



Jadhav and his partner, Constable Ganesh Bhat from Mumbai, defused six Improvised Explosive Devicesu00a0 (IEDs) in a record 20 minutes.

Cash reward
In a special function on Thursday, Jadhav was awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,000 and promoted from the rank of Naik to Hawaldar.

"The award has motivated me to stay alert and work hard in the future. I will use the cash prize to educate my two children," he told MiD DAY.u00a0

Meera Borwankar, IG, State CID, who represented Maharashtra at the national meet, said Jadhav is the first officer in the state to be promoted for winning the competition. After him, Bhat will be promoted and so will Constable Sachin Gavate, who won the computer awareness competition at the meet.

Jadhav is now helping his colleagues prepare for the next national meet at Ahmedabad in February 2010. "We'll certainly win this time too," said a confident Jadhav.
