Schools can increase fees every 2 yrs, but have to follow laid-down procedure
The Fee Regulation Bill that was passed yesterday in the monsoon session of the state legislature mentions that schools can increase fees after every two years. Sunil Magar, deputy director of education (Pune), said though the bill had been passed, his department was yet to see the acts mentioned in the bill.
"It's good that the bill has been passed. The issues that were being created between the parents, schools and students will no more be highlighted. This has come as a pleasant change and we hope that schools and parents will no more have personal issues," said Magar. "We haven't received a copy and will be able to say more on the details once the Governor signs it."u00a0
Jayant Jain, president, Forum for Fairness in Education, also said the NGO was yet to go throgh the details of the bill. "We haven't received all the details mentioned in the bill. But there are a w important points, like allowing schools to increase fees after every two years, sending the proposal to parents 10 months in advance and informing parents six months in advance," said Jain.
He added that PTA concert was necessary and if there was a difference of more than 15 per cent between PTA and school authorities, then the divisional committee comprising of a high court judge will take a decision on the fee hike. The school education department had to hold back the fee regulation bill last year and had to send it to the joint select committee after the members of the house brought out the flaws in it.
