The term football fanaticism took a whole new meaning when a 17-year-old boy consumed rat poison after he was not allowed to watch any more football matches.
Kevin Peter, a resident of ITC Colony, a first year student in St Miras Institute was frustrated after his parents scolded him for watching too much of football.
They banned him from watching any further matches. On Tuesday, Kevin missed his tuitions to watch the match, which infuriated his parents.
After being reprimanded, he picked up the bottle of cockroach poison and sprayed it into his mouth.
When Kevin's mother went to call him for dinner at around 9 pm she found him unable to breathe and quickly rushed him to Bowring Hospital.
When MiD DAY spoke to the hospital sources, one of them said, "Kevin is now out of danger. However, we are keeping him for further observation."
On Wednesday night, Pulakeshi Nagar police were informed and a case of attempted suicide was registered.
ASI G Venkatesh said, "We been told that the boy tried to commit suicide because his parents did not allow him to watch football. We are still investigating the case."
