A conspiracy to loot a jewellery shop and murder a roadside vendor was foiled by the Crime Branch with the arrest of a gang of eight from Harkanagar in Camp last evening.

The detailed planning apart, police were in for a surprise when they recovered sophisticated weaponsu00a0 from the gang. Apart from two locally-made swords, police also found two Rambo knives of which one was made in Germany.
ACP Prabhakar Patil said, "One of the accused Firoz Shaikh ran a roadside stall with a certain man named Mansur in Ghorpadi Peth. The duo had differences over sharing of money."
Patil added that Shaikh had planned to kill Mansur on Monday.
"They were also planning to loot a jewellery shop in Bhavani Peth," he added. Those arrested were identified as Firoz Juber Shaikh (26), Muntagi Mohsin Ghotekar (23), Aamin Hajilal Atar (19), Haidar Sattar Shaikh (18), Asif Kadar Shaikh (20), Asif Kadar Memon (20), Iftekar Saifuddin Shaikh (21) and Jahir Satar Shaikh (24).
