Several cops injured while controlling clashes between two groups in outer Delhi

It was a rough Wednesday night for outer Delhi cops. Two police officers were injured and a Police Control Room van was torched by a mob, after the police tried to stop a fight in a slum cluster in the area. The incident occurred when the police attempted to quell a violent confrontation in Shahbad Dairy.

"We received a call at about 8.30 pm on Wednesday about a clash between two groups in the Shahbad Dairy area. We sent a PCR van to the spot but the mob attacked the vehicle and then torched it. Some attackers then pushed the van into a small pond. As we got the information about the incident we sent more force to control the mob. Senior officers of the area rushed to the spot immediately and controlled the situation," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP outer District.

The DCP herself rushed to the spot to stem the violence. "The mob was celebrating at a wedding function and most of the people were drunk. The brawl started when some people started dancing and the other group opposed. Few drunken miscreants attacked the PCR van. The driver and a constable suffered injuries; they are now out of danger. The situation came under control by 2 am on Thursday. We have identified and arrested 4 attackers in the case," she added.

'Date' with cops

Delhi Police is preparing calendars and notepads with an aim to create awareness about prevention of crime against women.
The Special Police Unit for Women and Children of the city police will print special wall calendars, table calendars and notepads in English and Hindi with messages about prevention of crime against women.
"Our attempt is to create awareness about crime against women. The calendars and note pads will have information like what one should in case of a woman being subjected to attacks," a police official said.
