Companies break free of two-year-old policy of not hiring fresh graduates
Job-seekers rejoice. Companies have finally started recruiting fresh graduates after a lull of two years. Job consultants confirmed that in Bangalore alone there are over 7,000 jobs in over 100 companies for graduates.
In fact, a placement drive that covers six colleges in Bangalore is underway.
"Companies want to recruit fresh graduates with cost-cutting on their minds. Many are also making a conscious attempt to recruit younger employees into their teams," a job consultant told this reporter.

Most of them didn't turn up because of the internal exams underway at most colleges in the city," said Mahesh Sheka, MD, Campus Select, which is organising a job fair at T John College.
"The main aim of conducting such job fairs is to build a bridge between education and industry. This year, the number of jobs available has increased substantially compared to last year," Sheka explained.
Caroline, recruitment manager, Fidelity National Financial Services, said, "It's indeed a very good approach to seek fresh talent in multiple campuses so students land jobs before they pass out."
"Last month, we conducted a similar job fair in Mangalore. Around 3,500 students participated, and 1,500 jobs landed jobs. There were few students who got jobs in over five companies.
Such job fairs help companies and students to find each other at the click of a button. It offers every student a job of his or her choice," added Mahesh.
Sherwin, talent acquisition manager, Cafe Coffee Day, said, "There is talent on every campus. Initiatives like this one help us explore talent that we generally miss out on."
