Moderate to heavy snowfall was experienced in higher reaches of the state, including Gulmarg and Pahalgam hill resorts since last night, officials said.
While plains such as Banihal, Qazigund and Batote along the highway recorded 24.6, 16.2 and 11.6 mm of rains. Several areas along the 300 km Srinagar-Jammu National Highway were also lashed by heavy rains since last night forcing temporary suspension of the traffic on the road, they said.
However, traffic was resumed on the only surface link between Kashmir and rest of the country on Friday morning after the hurdles were removed, the officials said.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which was reeling under sub-zero temperature for the past fortnight, recorded a low of 0.2 degree Celisus which was four degrees above normal.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, also showed upward trend as a low of 3.5 degrees Celisus was recorded which was nearly five degrees above normal.
Jammu and Bhaderwah which also received a rainfall of 2.4 and 5.8 mm, respectively, recorded a low of 12.1 and 4.7 degrees Celisus this winter for the first time. However, Kokernag in Kashmir valley was the coldest place where the night temperature dipped to minus 2.0 degrees Celisus.
The frontier region of Ladakh also witnessed some respite from biting cold as the minimum temperature showed improvement. Leh which recorded a low of minus 12.4 degrees Celisus previous night, recorded night temperature of minus 5.0 degrees.
