The mean masoo from Balika Vadhu, in true Rajasthani style, loves Dal bhati with desi ghee

Surekha Sekri's thought for food
I am basically:
A vegetarian, but I occasionally opt to eat non-vegetarian also. My favourite in non-vegetarian fare is fish. In vegetables, I love bhindi cooked very simply.

I begin my day with: Drinking lots of water, followed with breakfast.

For my breakfast: I like my big mug of Darjeeling tea, which I enjoy very much. I like it brewed, don't like the boiled one. I enjoy my morning tea and later have eggs and toast or cheese and bread.

My lunch is: Generally on the sets. Occasionally I carry my lunch from home when I have the time to cook. I am a rice person, so I like to have my dal bhaat, sabzi and dahi.

Food on the sets of Balika Vadhu comprises: Rice, roti, dal, sabzi, chicken curry, salad, dahi and a sweet dish.

I generally carry: Nachini biscuits, fruits, juices, some health foods as I am very fond of them.

In the evenings: Normally I have an omelette with a couple of slices of brown bread, something filling as I get really very hungry around seven pm. I don't have tea on the sets. Occasionally I have my green tea with boiled water which I carry with me.

I am a small but: Frequent eater.

My dinner: Is very light. I hate to stuff myself at night. I have a soup and a light khichdi.

In Rajasthani cuisine: I just love Dal baati with desi ghee.

In sweets: I am very fond of dark chocolate.
I carry gur with me in my food basket if I feel the urge to eat something sweet. In Indian sweets, I like rasgullas and milk cake.

My childhood memories comprise of: My father was posted in Dehradun when I was born but my hometown is Almora near Nainital. My mother made raita from hill lemon, it's called galgal. It's a very large lemon, almost the size of a small orange. The raita was delicious and contained rai, honey and dahi. She made it quite often and it was a delicacy. I still remember eating an exquisite mutton biryani at one wedding in Aligarh when I was 10 years old. I have yet to taste biryani as good as that again.

My fitness regimen: Earlier I did yoga regularly but I have been kind of getting little lackadaisical lately. Yin Yoga Asanas are my favourite kind of exercise. As far as walking is concerned, I do all the walking on the sets itself. At times I go out and stretch my legs. I also carry my yoga mat to the sets but haven't been able to make time for it so far.

My favourite restraurants: I am a home bird, actually I don't like eating out. If ever I go out to eat I like to eat a Gujarati thali or some Chinese meal. But I prefer Indian food over all other cuisines. I like Mughlai food occasionally. I love Aloo puri from Uttar Pradesh, it's terrific. In Chinese, I like to have prawns and fish.

My Sunday special: Ideally, I would like to have haleem or khichda, but I am shooting even on Sundays.

I am not a great cook: But I like and I enjoy cooking very much. I can cook mutton curry, sabzis and dals. I am not very good at making rotis but I can if you twist my arm.

My favourite cooks in my family: My aunt was a great cook, she made the most outstanding paya amongst other things.

My best dining friends: My husband, my sister she lives kind of down the road and a few of my friends who I shoot with, like Aslesha who plays Tara in Saat Phere. Whenever we feel like, we go out and grab a bite.

My husband's favourite food: Is Konkani food.
He is a very good cook and makes excellent fish curry and fried fish.

My fridge always has: Cheese and fruits.

I feel guilty after eating: Main itna khati hi nahin hoon ke mujhe guilty feel ho. A few days back, I had big fat luscious brownie, I had the full thing and I didn't feel an iota of guilt. I ate it, happily.

I can't resist buying: Green vegetables, nimbu, coriander leaves, broccoli and ladyfingers.

I also love buying fruits: oranges, grapes, peaches and mangoes in season.

My favourite beverage: Is water. I also like having white wine. I like my morning mug of tea the favourites keep varying from day to day.

My favourite spice: Jeera, hing, garam masala like cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and peppercorns.

My comfort food: Is nice hot khichdi with a dollop of desi ghee on it.

My favourite kitchen appliance: Mixie.

My idea of a romantic meal: A mountain somewhere in the north. We should be in an open air restaurant, the weather should be cold. I should be able to hear the sound of the stream water and should feel the breeze. For dinner, I would like to eat Tomato aloo ki curry with hot purees. The drink should be the local brew if it is interesting or the mountain stream's water.
