International panel to assess preparedness, take on-the-spot decisions

In a last ditch effort to save the Games, the international panel 'Games Time Monitoring Group' has started its work. The panel will take day-to-day stock of the preparedness in everyday meetings and will be authorised to take on-the-spot decisions.

"Wherever the Games are held, CWG Federation panel with its experts from all the areas, checks the state of preparedness," said an official.

The panel will hold discussions on a day-to day basis with the government of India constituted panel, headed
by cabinet secretary K M Chandershekhar, and the Organising Committee and civic agencies. "The panel begins its work days before the Games are held and is functional till the completion of the event," said the official. It has a varied range of emergency powers which the group exercises as per the requirement.

Getting Familiar
With barely two weeks left when the international players arrive in the city for Commonwealth Games, the OC officials have started the familiarisation exercise.

"Our teams have taken over the venues and Commonwealth Games village and other residential complexes constructed for the Games. It is an exercise done to get the real picture of the place to identify the problem areas," said an official.

"Unless somebody actually starts living there, how would we be able to know about the small problems which players or any other official would face there?" added the official.
