The Guide caught up with Mumbai-based rock band Medusa and quizzed them on why they named their band after a mythical female monster

Medusa is all prepared to hit Pune rockers with their best Indian meets Electronic and alternative sound at Hard Rock Cafu00e9 this Thursday. Based in Mumbai, the band which got its act together three years ago, is no stranger to Pune, and loves coming back to the city. "Performing in Pune has always been special. People here have a great sense of music and support whole-heartedly during a performance," says vocalist Raxit who is accompanied by Rahul on the guitar, Siddharth on bass and Harsh on drums.

But why Medusa, a Greek mythical female monster with snakes as hair, who turns onlookers into stone? "We didn't really think much before naming our band. The name popped up instinctively. We were about to perform our first gig, and had to think of a name before taking the stage. We came up with Medusa," explains Raxit. "We have actually decided to rename our band band soon," he adds.

The band will play their original numbers during their gig with a few covers for the crowds. "We will mostly perform original songs," says Raxit. That was the original idea after all. "Medusa was formed with the intention of doing something new and creative. We guys knew each other and all of us had an equal passion for music.

So, we decided form a band and do things differently," recounts Raxit. Their sound is catching on, they feel.

Medusa's songs are based on rock and they make liberal use of computer-generated sounds as well. "Our genre doesn't have mass appeal. But, it has carved a niche for itself and people, especially youngsters are catching onto it pretty fast. I hope we get a lot of support from them this Thursday," signs off Raxit.
