Had promised to arrange a medical certificate to help a rape accused get acquitted

14-year-old son had been detained and remanded to juvenile home on the charges of raping the four-year-old daughter of a tenant.

Before being remanded, the accused was subjected to a medical examination at the Dr Ambedkar Medical college forensic science section. Venkatesh, who was present at that time, took Habibunnisa's mobile number from the records.

While Habibunnisa was waiting for the medical report, Venkatesh called her up, told her that the report shows that her son has committed the offense, police said. A startled Habibunnisa approached the doctor who had conducted the examination, and was told that the reports were not ready.

The next day, Venkatesh called up Habibunnisa again and demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to manipulate the report and turn it in her son's favour. Suspecting that something was fishy, Habibunnisa approached Lokayukta officials who directed L Rangappa, PI of KG Halli police station, to look into the matter.

Rangappa asked Habibunnisa to call Venkatesh to her house on the pretext of giving him the bribe, and that's how Venkatesh was caught. "A case has been booked against Venkatesh, and he has been remanded to judicial custody." Rangappa said.
