Dinesh Vohra bluffed and won a crore. Dinesh Vohra, an intelligence officer with the customs department, had predicted he would win the quiz-game show Poker Face on REAL TV. And now that he has become a crorepati in just one week after winning the show, he is getting ready to spend the cash on his family.
In an interview with MiD DAY, the 52-year-old Mumbaikar, who was thrilled to be a part of the show, talks about his winning mantra.
You have won Rs 1 crore on the television quiz show Poker Face. How are you planning to spend the money?
Let the money reach me first then I will think about the wise ways to spend it. My daughter is a dental surgeon. I want to set up a clinic for her. Besides, I want to buy a house.
Have you calculated the final amount you will be taking home?
To be honest, I have not received any amount yet. However, the TV channel has noted down specifications like my PAN number and bank account details. After income tax deduction, I guess I will be getting somewhere around Rs 66 lakh.
You are also an astrologer. Did you guess that you would win?
I did predict my win. I even told my daughter Divya that if the shooting of the final episode took place at a particular time then I would surely win. The shooting did take place during the favourable time and I won. I was also confident of my knowledge.
What do you think is the mantra to win a show like this. Is it the knowledge or the ability to bluff?
Both. The show tests how you can keep yourself calm under tense situations. In my case the fact that I am an intelligence officer and try to find unscrupulous elements each day, helped tremendously. It was a thrilling game.
How did your journey begin?
I gave auditions in Mumbai where I had to face a general knowledge test and a TV interview along with a group discussion. Then I was selected to play the game on TV.
Is this the first time you have participated in a reality show on television?
This is my second chance. I have participated in Kaun Banega Crorepati, which was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. I was among the top 10 contestants but could not make it to the hot seat.
How did you find the show's host actor Sharman Joshi?
Sharman was fantastic and very courteous. It was a sheer pleasure to be with him on the sets.
