It's an initiative that's going to be a sure shot boost for India's contraceptive industry. It has all the makings of a winning formula to appease the lazy, inhibited Indian customer. Shopping for contraceptives on your mobile means home delivery of goods to steam up your romp without the embarrassment of stuttering the name of a condom brand, or worse, a lubricant, at your neighbourhood chemist.

Just sms ngpay to 56767 and within seconds you can have a mall that sits on your mobile. ngpay that stands for next generation pay, was an idea that struck a now-32-year-old Sourabh Jain, six-years back working as a techie with Lucent.

Hailing from a Marwari business family, Sourabh quit the IT sector and began a small office in a garage with a small core team building the backbone technology platform for ngpay -- India's Largest Mall on Mobile. After Helion, his angel investors saw sense in his brilliant idea in 2006; he launched ngpay in 2008.

"KamaSutra store on our mobile mall selling condoms and deodorants is the biggest selling mobile shop today. In fact, the mobile mall already has 400,000 users from all over India, with some using ngpay every 0.5 seconds to buy railway, bus, air, movie and play tickets, recharge your mobile phones, pay bills, bank easily and securely.

It's an application which once downloaded on your mobile, doesn't require a fancy GPRS phone to purchase anything from even the remote Indian cities. Any Rs 2,000 phone will also enable you to walk into the mobile mall. The best part is one doesn't need to be tech savvy," says Sourabh.

"Also, there's no extra surcharge and you also get discounts directly from the mobile mall stores. You can order sweets, chocolates, diamonds and pearls, electric appliances, white goods, books, shoes, cards, creams, comics, magazines and other such products. There are 100 stores existing on ngpay mobile mall and every week a couple more are being added with an over 10,000-product list. We're revamping our website ngpay.com and soon there will be more such," adds Sourabh.

On the other hand, the dot com condom sales are booming too with Durex India's website expanding its range from condoms, lubes and stimulators, to a new range of massage gels from this festival month.

"An e-store gives customers the option to buy in the privacy of their home. We might also consider stocking products from our stores abroad, for exclusive purchase," says Vishal Vyas, spokesperson for Durex India.

Retailers are hoping to see sales being made from mobile phones soon. "Online sales are still a small slice of the overall business but they are growing at a rapid rate, and with the onset of 3G, we believe purchases will be made straight from mobile phones," says Aniruddha Deshmukh, President, JK Ansell Limited, manufacturers of KamaSutra condoms.

They re-launched their website earlier this year, and have seen a 70 per cent jump in sales since April.

Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad make up for 70 per cent of purchases.

The rest come from smaller cities like Indore, Ranchi and Patna.
