In 60 Seconds Deep, that indispensible-yet-dreaded of all urban routines the ringing alarm clock and a suspended tyre separate one vignette from another. Fitting pauses for a play about love, lust, longing and life
He brought actors Sheila Govindaraj, Nayantara Roy, Mandhar Gokhale and Atul Mongia together to improvise.
"They explored ideas on the physical plane and came up with crazy, realistic themes and situations. The result was quirky, but we needed to do something with it for the audience to be able to connect. So, Nayantara did the writing and gave form to it."
"I used every single image that was thrown up, and created characters and scenarios that would resonate with anyone who has lived in any city in the world Mumbai, Bangalore, New York or London." So, spoofs on reality television, sensational news coverage, career obsessions, coffee shop romance, overcrowded trains and traffic jams merge with choreographed movements and five original songs by Asif Ali Baig.
The 1.5 hour satire seems to work. The play premiered in October 2008 and is all ready for its 25th show today at Prithvi.u00a0
