Internal tussle in dynasty politics

Sources say that while Ex-minister HD Revanna wants his wife to be a poll candidate, younger brother Kumaraswamy is against it; father HD Deve Gowda seems helpless in the case.

The prevailing political crisis has given rise to an internal crisis in former PM and JD(S) National President HD Deve Gowda's family. While HD Revanna is pushing his wife Bhavani to be a poll candidate, younger brother

HD Kumaraswamy is working against it, sources say. Amid the high-voltage political drama, MC Aswath resigned as a JD(S) MLA from Channapattana to join BJP, last week.

The party now needs a candidate for the constituency and Revanna, former minister and floor leader of JD(S) in the Assembly, wants to field his wife as the candidate.u00a0 Kumaraswamy, former chief minister and state president of JD(S), thinks different, and he is contemplating bringing in actor-turned politician Ambarish, who is now in the Congress.

Bhavani is nursing her political dreams from past couple of years and she wanted to contest from either Channapattana or KR Nagar, constituencies dominated by vokkaliga voters, in last assembly elections held in 2008. To her dismay, Kumaraswamy not only shot down her candidature but made his wife Anita Kumaraswamy a victorious candidate in a by-poll from Madhugiri.u00a0

"Bhavani has a feeling that she and her husband have been given a raw deal, while Kumaraswamy and his wife are preferred in the family," said a source close to the Gowda family. "Though Gowda likes Bhavani, he looks helpless in this case."

Bhavani is the closest to Deve Gowda in the family as she looks after his parliamentary constituency Hasan. She had managed his poll campaign in the constituency in the Lok Sabha polls held last year. However, sources say that the patriarch has no influence on Kumaraswamy, who is politically dominant in the family in her case.
A miffed Revanna was in Kerala on Tuesday to offer a special pooja at a temple only to seek divine intervention to help his wife become a politician. On his return yesterday, he said, "I regularly visit temples and it is nothing to do with politics." He declined to comment on Bhavani's candidature.

Kumaraswamy said, "The disqualification case of MLAs pending in the court will decide the fate of the government. It will be a different political scene after the judgment and we are not in a hurry to decide on the poll candidates now for the next elections."

Diqualification

A Single bench consisting of Justice V G Sabayat heard the disqualification case of the 11 BJP MLAs, and posted it for today. It was referred to this bench, after a two-member bench consisting of Chief Justice JS Kehar and N Kumar pronounced a split verdict on Monday.
