Black windows of all possible shapes and sizes, doors, little nooks and crannies, door knockers, flight of steps and even cracks stand out in stark contrast against white rough textured walls in photographer Madhavi Swarup's collection titled Duality. "The show consists of blacks and whites. While the white symbolises uplifting, calming and spiritual energy that lifts you up, black is the darker side. If white is day, then black is night in my collection," says, Swarup.

But 46-year-old Swarup's fascination with windows and doors just doesn't end there. Every picture out of the 20 odd exhibited at the show, represents some kind of human relationship. For example, cracks represent a crack in the heart.

While her photographs are mostly about architectural spaces, there is a certain delicacy in the work according to Swarup's own admission. "There is that luminousity and porosity that comes from this delicacy", she says.

Swarup's favourite mode of shooting is of course in black and white as she feels that we see the world in colour but when you shoot in the black and white medium its like a starker interpretation of your world. Swarup's journey into photography is no coincidence but a carefully nurtured dream since the age of ten when she was handed her first camera by her father.

Originally hailing from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Swarup has a Masters degree in Literature and a Visharad in Kathak dance and music and has followed it up with a photography degree from International College of Professional Photography (ICPP) at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).u00a0
