Jammu: Kathua villagers block highway

Kathua: Traffic was disrupted on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, on Saturday as villagers blocked the highway for some time demanding retrieval of body of a youth, who was washed away in river Ravi.

About 100 villagers and relatives of the youth assembled at Kalibari in Kathua district and blocked the highway for half an hour on Saturday morning, police officials said.

A youth identified as Said Mohammad was crossing the river Ravi on Friday when the water level suddenly increased and he was washed away in the river. The protesters demanded a search to trace the body should be immediately launched. The traffic on the highway was blocked resulting in heavy traffic jam as long queues of vehicles were stranded on the highway.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kathua, Manmohan Singh rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that operation to trace the body will be launch soon and the body will be retrieved on Saturday.

After assurance, the protesters lifted the dharna and the traffic was restored on the highway.
