The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on Wednesday due to heavy snowfall and landslides triggered by overnight rains.

Heavy snowfall blocked the Jawahir tunnel even as landslides and shooting stones blocked the highway at Panthal and Ramban since early this morning, traffic officials said.

As result of the blockade, over 1500 vehicles are stranded on the highway.

Personnel of the Border Roads Organisation are trying to clear the highway of snow.

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is the only surface link between Kashmir Valley and rest of the country.
