A court in New Delhi on Monday awarded the death penalty to two convicts for kidnapping and killing IT executive Jigisha Ghosh in 2009. Here is the full chronology of the events.

Who was Jigisha Ghosh?
28-year-old IT executive Jigisha Ghosh who was working with Hewitt Associates Pvt Ltd as an operations manager, was kidnapped and killed on March 18, 2009 after her office cab dropped her near home in south Delhi's Vasant Vihar around 4 a.m. Jigisha was kidnapped by four men who stopped her on the pretext of asking for directions. She was robbed of her ATM and credit cards and was then shot. Her body was later found on the roadside, just a few metres away from her apartment.


This case is also closely related to the murder of TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan for two reasons - the men involved in the two murders are the same and second the investigation of Jigisha's murder led the police to Soumya's alleged killers.

Here is the full chronology of the events.
March 18, 2009: Jigisha was abducted by four men in a Santro car little away from her home after she was dropped by her office cab at 4 am

March 20: She was found dead near Surajkund in Faridabad.

March 25: Delhi Police nabs four men for their alleged involvement in Jigisha's murder. Cops also solve the murder case of TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, who was shot dead on September 30, 2008 while she was returning home by her car from office in the wee hours.

June 2009: Police files charge sheet in court.

August 10, 2009: Court fixes August 28 for hearing arguments on charges.

Dec 5, 2009: Court frames charges against three accused in the case.

April 15, 2010: Trial begins with recording of testimony of Jigisha's father.

July 5, 2016: Court concludes hearing final arguments, reserves judgement.

July 14: Court convicts three accused for abducting, robbing and murdering Jigisha.

August 20: Court reserves the order on quantum of sentence.

August 22: Court awards death penalty to two men and life term to another and imposes a fine of nine lakh on the three convicts.
