Drunk police constable and a group of Muslim shop owners in Iliyas Nagar, get in to a fight, as the former forced them to shut shops
On the third day of the holy month of Ramadan, a fight broke out between a drunk police constable and a group of Muslim shop owners.
Owing to the fight, over a hundred people assembled at Iliyas Nagar in Kumaraswamy Layout at 11 pm yesterday.
Owner of a grocery shop, Ahmed Khan, was allegedgly assaulted by constable Ganesh. "He started using filthy language. He also threw the food items that was kept in the store as he was drunk that time," said Khan.
"This has been happening for the past three nights. But today, the constable assaulted an old man from the area," said MD Asif, a resident of the area, who witnessed the entire scuffle.
"Tonight, two cops who came on bikes, threw down the batter that is used to make samosas and also spilled oil on the floor."u00a0
A senior police official from Kumaraswamy Layout police station, requesting anonymity, said, "We asked the shop keepers to close their stores on time, but they refused and that's what caused the fight.

The constable in question has been sent home."u00a0The shops in the area stay open all night on account of Ramadan.
The shopkeepers cook all night for those fasting during the day.
