While the Opposition, including the BJP, has taken a tough stand in exposing the Organising Committee Chairman and his antics allegedly involved in multi crore CWG corruption, politicians associated with sports organisations maintained a stoic silence on the day Suresh Kalmadi was shown the door from the office of the secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP).
Even the whistle-blower on the issue of CWG corruption, former Union Minister Manishankar Aiyar, parried questions on the CWG organising committee chairman's resignation as secretary of the CPP.
"I have nothing to say on it," said Aiyar, who was a vocal critic of Kalmadi and the CWG. "A committee has been formed by the government which is inquiring into it. Only when it submits its report will I make any comment," said Aiyar.
However, BJP maintained that Kalmadi and Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan's resignations were not enough and it would raise the issue of corruption in high places in the government during this Parliament session.
"It is not that one or two resignations will ease the pressure on the government on corruption charges.
Chavan's resignation does not give a clean chit to Kalmadi, Sheila Dikshit, A Raja and S Jaipal Reddy," Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said. Rajya Sabha MP and BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "Kalmadi was not the only person involved in corruption and action has to be taken against others."
He further said, "The list is very long. There are so many champion players in the Congress Party who indulge in corruption. Only resignation of few leaders won't work."
