Says artist Raghu Vyas, whose latest show in the city is all about passion and piety
Picture a flirtatious lord, gorgeous gopis and ethereal romance in the lap of nature... sensuality at its sacred best. That's what artist Raghu Vyas' new art collectionu00a0Krishna - Romantic Fantasy In Peacock Forestu00a0puts in paint. "Krishna is our ishq, through generations," he smiles.

Does the term perplex you? The man behind the strokes explains the ideau00a0"There are two lightsu00a0one in your head and one that lights the room. My works are lit by the light of imagination, the real light. It is an emotional light that can convey a feeling, a mood or an idea, the light of nostalgia of a distant memory, the light of the magical garden of childhood. The forms and models used in my work are a product of my dreams." With Indian cinema all set to celebrate Raja Ravi Varma's realistic canvases with Ketan Mehta's soon-to-be released Rang Rasiya, it's perhaps time for the world to once again applaud the beauty of figurative art. Vyas is a disciple of Varma, by the way.
Peacock spring
Erotic love, kindled by peacock feather backgrounds, is the predominant subject explored in the 21 canvases being brought to public view by Ragini Arts. Lotus is the symbol for virginity and fertility, flute for the music of foreplay, Meera for longing and a pair of swans for sensuality. Quite literally, this one's a brush with heaven on earth.
