Only shops of essential commodities like milk, vegetables and medicines would remain open from today say traders
As many as three lakh traders from across the district are launching an indefinite bandh from today against the state government’s decision to bring in Local Body Tax (LBT) in lieu of octroi.
However, shops of essential commodities like milk, vegetables and medicines would remain open, informed president of Pune Trader’s Association Popatlal Oswal.
“We have been protesting against LBT since April 1. However, we called off our protest following the request of chief minister Prithviraj Chavan when he promised to bring a draft notification. But the summary put forward by Chavan is unclear. So, we have called for an indefinite bandh from May 8,” Oswal said.
He added that now the traders are firm that they don’t want LBT at all. Meanwhile, the merchants in the city are waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court, which will be hearing the writ petition filed by Federation of Trade Association of Pune against LBT.u00a0
