Gear up for some adventurous music by a band, which incorporates eight genres of musicu00a0

Lovers of Rock and Roll swear by the Annual Rock Awards, which honours excellence in Rock and Roll and is now entering its sixth edition. The current edition will award bands from Pakistan and Sri Lanka as well.



As part of the Jack Daniels Annual Rock Awards 2010-11, Hard Rock Caf ufffd is hosting a concert featuring singers Sridhar/Thayil. The winning band from Sri Lanka ufffd BreathSpace ufffd will also be performing.

"We are a five-piece band now, but we still call ourselves Sridhar/Thayil. Last year, we won the Best Emerging Band of the Year at these awards," said Jeet Thayil. The other band members are Suman Sridhar (vocals, keyboards), Amz Ahuja (bass), Viru Kaith (drums), Paul Rodrigues (trumpet) and Jeet Thayil (vocals and keyboards). If you think the trumpet is an unusual instrument for a gig, brace up as Suman also plays the harmonium.

Formed in late 2007, Sridhar/Thayil is a lyrical pop duo who describe their sound as a brew of "urban grime" with sweet vocals and mean talk over wailing blues guitar.

"Our music is impossible to describe. We play eight different genres like Jazz, Blues, the spoken word, Pop, Rock and Hindustani Classical," states Jeet. Surprisingly, he finds the Pune audience to be "crazier than the Mumbai ones."

He recalls that during the Medicine Show, the audience in Mumbai was shocked but the Pune audience didn't even blink. "They were so cool, they laughed and since they had a sense of humour they got it!" As for their upcoming gig, they are coming with single agenda: "We are coming to have a good time." Well said.
