Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee took an auto rickshaw ride to the airport here yesterday after her vehicle got stranded in a Muharram procession.

Banerjee, on her way to catch a Delhi-bound flight, found her convoy stalled at the busy VIP road-Teghoria crossing close to the NSC Bose International Airport.

As a big Muharram procession wound its way at the crossing, Banerjee got off her car, walked about two km with the procession and then hopped into an airport-bound auto.

"She walked nearly two km with the procession and then took the autorickshaw," said Jyotipriyo Mallick, a Trinamool Congress legislator.

An officer manning the city police traffic control room confirmed the incident.
