Edward S, an electrical engineer from HAL, was cheated of Rs 1.4 lakh after he responded to an ad for home loans in a newspaper.

Edward S, an electrical engineer from HAL, was cheated of Rs 1.4 lakh after he responded to an ad for home loans in a newspaper.

Edward met T G R Giridharan,u00a0 who had put the ad in the paper, for a loan of Rs 40 lakh at ICICI bank on Commissariat Road, two weeks ago. Giridharan gave Edward forms to fill and asked him to pay Rs 1 lakh as security.

Edward deposited the money in an ICICI account which later turned out to be Girdharan's personal account.

Edward also paid Rs 15,000 as processing fee and Rs 25,000 for his personal expenses to Giridharan, in cash.

Giridhar then asked Edward to contact him after three days. When Edward called Giridharan, he told him to call him after a week since the manager was out of town.

Edward grew suspicious and went to the bank. There he learnt that Giridharan was not working with the bank.

He immediately requested the bank officials to freeze Giridhar's account.

He then called up Giridharan, who assured him that he would return the money, but later he started avoiding his calls.u00a0

u00a0A few days ago, Edward learnt that Giridharan managed to lift the freeze order on his account and had withdrawn the money.

When Edward went to the Ashok Nagar police station, the police were reluctant to lodge a complaint as they did not believe him at first.u00a0 However, they finally registered the case onu00a0 May 6.
