Cops form team to nab husband absconding since day of murder

Au00a0construction worker who was unable to cope with his wife's excessive drinking allegedly killed her with sharp weapons in Bavdhan Khurd.

The deceased was identified as Reshma Santosh Rathod (35), a resident of Survey No. 22/5 at the Combine Builder site near Maratha Mandir in Bavdhan Khurd, which is under the jurisdiction of the Hinjewadi police station.

The police said Reshma's husband Santosh (32) was on the run since the murder.

Residents at the construction site claimed that Reshma's drinking habit had led to differences between the couple. They said no matter how much Santosh tried, Reshma would not give up alcohol.

Discovery of body
The murder came to light after a labourer named Pandhari Vinayak Bhandare (46) on Tuesday noticed light emanating from Rathod's room even though it was daytime. Bhandare knew that Santosh had not reported to work for two days and got curious. He peeped into Rathod's room and saw someone lying on the floor.

A frightened Bhandare reported the matter to the Bavdhan police chowky after a day, on Wednesday night.

The police rushed to the spot and recovered Reshma's body, which was found lying in a pool of blood.

The body was taken to the YCM Hospital for post-mortem.

Police Sub-Inspector Rajan Kadam, who is investigating the case, said, "The post-mortem report of Reshma said she was killed at least 24 hours before the discovery of her body. That means she could have been killed on November 8. Reshma's husband is absconding and we suspect his role in the murder."

Kadam said Santosh was originally a resident of Lamanvasti in Solapur.

"We have sent our team to Solapur to nab him. Only after his arrest will we be able to know his motive," said Kadam.
