Bluffmaster: Shane's most common con was reassuring people of
jobs abroad in exchange of huge amounts of money

When the duty cop told him to come the next day, Shane claimed to be the son of the Kerala ADGP, and threatened the duty cop into action. If was only a few days later, when Shane was brought into the police station in a separate case, the cop recognised and arrested him. Preliminary investigations have revealed five cases of fraud, and the cops say there are many more to come. Shane, a resident of Nettakkuvellakkam, Kerala has been in Karnataka for the last one year.

His most common con was reassuring people of jobs abroad in exchange of huge amounts of money. He would charge up to Rs 8-10 lakh, and after the payment was made, would disappear.If anyone threatened him of action, he would silence him or her by saying he was the son of Kerala ADGP Senthil Kumar. He cheated four people this way.

The downfall
On 24 December 2010, Shane lost his mobile phone while he was drinking at a local bar. Since he was in an inebriated state, he started accusing the two men who were sitting behind him. When the two denied this, Shane called his friends and a fight ensued. One of the two men managed to escape, and Shane took the other man, an accountant, to Upparepet police station.

The duty officer told him to come back later, since they were drunk. But when Shane went and complained to the Commissioner, the officer had to file a complaint, and sent the accountant to judicial custody.

Five days later, Solan George, a bank manager, filed a complaint at the station that a man had assured to get his brother a job abroad, and had taken Rs 9 lakh from him. Now he was harassing him for an additional Rs 4 lakh.

The police suggested that the manager call this man to the bank to get the money. But the man responded that he was in Goa, and sent a friend instead. The police arrested the friend, and after tracing the number, found that the main culprit was in the Majestic area. Subsequently, the police arrested him.

But when he was brought in the station, PI Lokeshwar was surprised to see him, because the man was no other than Shane. After an interrogation, he confessed that he had cheated people of more than Rs 50 lakh.

Lokeshwar said, "We are still investigating and we expect the toll of his previous crimes to rise." Shane has been sent to Central Jail.
