To gift traditional Puneri headgear to Wolfsburg counterpart, seek funds for exhibition centre, promote city as tourist spot
The Mayor plans to gift a Puneri pagdi to the Mayor of Wolfsburg when he visits Germany in a few days. He hopes to return with capital for a project in the city.
Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal is visiting Germany to finalise the details of an industrial exhibition centre in the city.
He will also use the opportunity to promote the city as a tourist spot. Rajpal's itinerary includes a cultural event.
During the visit he intends to get financial support from Wolfsburg for the industrial exhibition centre spread over 200 acres. Rajpal is to be accompanied by Joint Municipal Commissioner Ambrish Galinde, newly elected NCP MLC Vandana Chavan and president of Marhatta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) Mukesh Malhotra.
"We're sure our visit will be fruitful. Our idea is to create a huge industrial exhibition centre with MCCIA. We are expecting some funding from Germany for this ambitious project," said Rajpal.
MCCIA was recently allotted 200 acres of land by the state government, and the plan is to develop it on the lines of the Pragati Maidan exhibition centre in Delhi.
Rajpal said the centre will follow international standards and also have a facility to park over 5,000 cars. "We are also presenting a Mutha rehabilitation plan and seeking some funding foru00a0it." The mayor is keen to woo foreign tourists and also intends to ensure investment keeps flowing from abroad. "Pune is a beautiful cultural hub and is known as Oxford of the East. I want Pune to be a paradise for tourists," he said.
